Floral Chic Acrylic and Chipboard Album

I love this album! I designed this album for an upcoming class on Feb 12th. Using an acrylic front and back and chipboard pages this album bound using the Bind it all, features soft and feminine papers by Daisy D. The class kit also comes full with plenty of organdy ribbon, flowers, brads, tulle and soft green pearl accents to embellish. A full package of Basic Grey Chipboard alphabet and flowers and a full coordinating sticker sheet from Daisy D's. Although the sample reads "Spring" you can use the alphabet to create your own theme, the colors are soft and chic and this would be a perfect album for not only spring but for a new baby, Easter or a great gift for Mothers Day.

10 Things I Love About You- Paper Bag Album

I have been busy creating store layout samples and preparing for a couple of upcoming classes I will be teaching. On Feb 7th I will be doing a paper bag album class featuring Cosmo Cricket papers and coordinating chipboard buttons. Full of dimensional elements, pull out tags and hidden pockets, and topped with matching fabric rag ties on the binding. This album is created using 4 brown paper bags which is then binded using the Bind It All. This class is for the beginner to the intermediate and will make a great gift for Valentines Day.

She is such a Sweetie

I just have to share something from this evening. Ella, our 4 yr old is lately into making her own "sandwich" for lunch. She is so proud of herself everyday when we let her make her own pb&j (her favorite). So, she does this often and we let her, gives her independence, pride, etc....
So this evening she is in the kitchen I am doing something at the kitchen table (bills) and she says she is making a sandwich. Ok, I think, I don't have to make her any dinner, cool. So, a few minutes later I vaguely remember her telling me she was making Daddy a sandwich for work, to be honest I really was not paying all that much attention. She was quiet, occupied, she put everything back (shocker, cause you should see her room!!) ok, end of story, no.

Later tonight, long after they have gone to bed. I go into the kitchen and realize there is a lunchbox hanging from a drawer knob near the cabinet/counter that Daddy leaves his keys on, I leave his lunchbox on when he goes to work. So, I open it up to find that Ella had indeed made Daddy a sandwich. She had made him a mayo/mustard and cheese sandwich. She had cut it in half (yes with a butter knife) on the diagonal which is so funny cause earlier I do remember her telling me as she was trying to get me to eat a butter sandwich she had made that when she is at her Grammy and Papa's house, Grammy cuts the sandwiches in triangles (on the diagonal, where I cut them just in half). The sweetie had also put each half in its own Ziploc sandwich bag and then packed it into a lunchbox for her Daddy. Who by the way had gone to work already for the night.

Is that the sweetest thing ever!!! I JUST LOVE HER!

25 Random things about "Me"

So I have been tagged with this questionarre several times over the last few days over on facebook. So, I finally decided to sit down and do it and post it here. If you have not done this yet, it is hard!!!

1. I am the oldest of 3; I have a younger sister Karen and a younger brother Jason.

2. I have been a nurse since 93 in various specialties but have never felt it was my "calling" I just needed a career so went for it, however for the last 8 years I have been lucky enough to stay home.

3. As a teenager I wanted to attend Art School and should have....I am a very creative person.

4. Thought for sure when I was younger I would have the husband, kids and picket fence by age 25, however.....here I am nearly 40 and my "oldest" is in Kindergarten.

5. I attended 3 schools in the 6th grade.

6. I have a horrible fear of dying before my kids grow up, did I mention a horrible fear!!!!

7. I, at one time lived with 4 male roommates and no I did not use their bathroom, ugh!!

8. I don't like eggs, mustard, peppers and I only eat cottage cheese because I think it’s good for me, LOL.

9. I am a coffee addict, flip flop addict and I love vintage things.

10. Both my parents are still alive (phew!) and have been married for over 40 years.

11. I lived as a teenager 2 streets up from my now husband and did not even know him.

12. I would rather go to school than go to work, funny since I hated high school academics.

14. I like my son am a people pleaser; however the older I get the more I think I am growing out of this. I think younger I did it cause I thought people would like me or accept me. Boy hindsight is a powerful thing huh? If I had only known and spent so many years insecure…what a waste of time.

18. I took care of my grandmother while she was dying and she ended up dying on my birthday!

19. My husband and are complete opposites. If you had told either one of us when we were younger we would end up together neither one of us would have believed it, not in a million years! But, first date in 99 and we both “knew” …..Cliché I know, but true.

20. My feet, like my ass, have gone up 2 sizes since I had kids.

21. I still talk to and see most of my close friends I had in high school.

24. I am in awe of my children at some point every day.

25. I am not a pet person at all. I don’t like the smell, the touch, the drool, the mess, the hair, the cost, the responsibility, there is just nothing appealing about to me about any kind of pet or animal.

OHHH Obama!

So I have read several blogs tonight, watched the news and felt inspired to blog about how I feel about today's events. At almost 40 years old I have been around for a few, well OK, several Inaugurations but to be honest this is the first one I have really been excited about. I mean in my adult life we really only had Clinton and the Bush's and yes I have voted in all the elections I have been able to vote in ( I think) but this is the one I really felt good about voting in. I agree with my friend April who stated that all Presidential Inauguration's are historical but this one for me is more so than the ones of my adult past and yes I admit for me a huge part of it is the racial aspect. I saw a black woman on the television tonight who was very elderly, like in her late 90's and slavery was a part of her life, her past. Mothers had to part with there children how brothers and sisters were seperated and sold, to even hear that word "sold" when referring to children makes me extemely sad and shameful of our ancestors. Watching this woman cry and only imagining what she had experienced in her lifetime due to her race and what she must have been feeling at this very moment to see this is her lifetime, made me cry.

I am so proud of our nation for setting aside skin color in this election, so very proud. My parents grew up in the times of segregation in San Francisco, and were both extremely racist (sorry Mom and Dad if you read this but you know its true and I have told you so on more than one occasion) I, growing up in town that really had no blacks and I was not racist in the least despite the views of my parents. I recall a time when I was oh maybe 19 or 20 years old stopping by there house with a friend of mine who was black and my parents were furious I brought him "into there home". This was less than 20 years ago and not only do they "now" have "black friends" but they "both" voted for Obama and proudly so. I mention this because I am so proud of the change and this change it appears does not just lie with my parents or yours but an entire nation (or at least the majority vote). Now I am not saying it is perfect, I think race issues still exist and always will in some but it is so much better than just a few decades ago.

I also believe this event is so historical for my generation and the ones below me as this is "one" of the most historic events I believe in our lifetime thus far, do you not agree? My parents had JFK and the walk on the moon and we have Obama and sadly 9-11. My four year old has been walking around today telling me Obama was our new President and her 6 year old brother has been quick to correct her in saying "no, his name is Barack Obama, and he lives at the White House now". Now they have no idea of the significance of today or what our future might bring because of today but they know it is a big deal. My mother remembers being in grade school and watching about JFK on the television, my 6 year old son watched the Inauguration in his class today at school, both historic for the time.

I close in wanting to express how full of hope I am feeling.....not only because we have a "black" President but because we have hope for a better future. Our economy is rock bottom, the housing market horrible, the job market slumped, and I think this election has come at the right time, the right time for hope for everyone, it could not come at a better time to have a new leader at the reigns, to give the people hope in change, that things can only get better.

I LOVE my Princess House Dish!

OK, can I tell you how much I love this cookware piece! I really do! Boy do you know your getting old when kitchenware floats your boat.....so a year or two ago my friend April had a Princess House party at her home. I was not even aware that Princess House was still around, boy they have been around forever. So, I got a catalog from her, I always order from my friends who are having these in home parties or I try to at least. I would hope they would do the same if it were I having one. I usually set a dollar amount to spend, $50 or a less....well, this was one show I went above and beyond my set amount but I am so glad I did. April ranted and raved about how this casserole dish could bake and entire chicken in the microwave in just 35 minutes and have it fall off the bone. Loving the idea of "easy" I went for it and paid gosh I think it was nearly $90 if I recall correctly (maybe that was with tax and ship????) and its pretty, etched glass and I have seriously dropped the thing once or twice on the kitchen tile and it did not even chip.

SO she was right! and I use this thing ALL THE TIME! Today is Wed and I have used it twice this week already. Sunday night I made a chicken pot pie with crust and all and baked it in the oven, tonight I made the super easy chicken. Seriously you wash the chicken and put in the dish. I sometimes rub with butter, or spray with Pam, salt and pepper, sometimes lemon juice and stick the lemon in the belly to cook. Throw on the lid and cook for 35 in the microwave and wa lah! Dinner is served. So the next time your invited to a Princess House party make both yourself and the Hostess happy and order this thing!

Cricut Class Valentines Banner

On the 30th of this month I will be teaching a repeat class, the Cricut Exression class at the Scrappers Depot in Napa, Ca. I am sure lots of Crafters received this fabulous machine for Christmas and are not quite sure how all the function keys work and just how much you can do with this must have, user friendly, diecutting machine. We will review each keys function and also touch briefly on the companion computer program the Cricut Design Studio. As always after the instructions have been given we will "play" with the machine and the project this evening will be a cute Valentines themed home decor banner, using a cute spring themed line. Just because its Valentines does not mean you have to use Valentines designed papers. I just finished the class sample see pictures.
